EPIC Participants

EPIC helps people with disabilities find and keep good jobs in the community. These jobs pay fair wages, allow people to work alongside others without disabilities, and offer chances to move up in their careers. Our goal is to create a lasting system that supports this kind of employment.

EPIC is Employment First

Virginia is an “Employment First” state. This means the state’s first choice is to help people with disabilities, including those with significant disabilities, get jobs in regular workplaces, earning fair pay.

This is employment that:

  • Pays wages that are not less than customary wages for same/ similar work.
  • Provides interaction with non-disabled people to the same degree as others.
  • Provides opportunities for advancement.

Who participates in EPIC 

  • Individuals currently working in subminimum wage employment.
  • Individuals formerly working in subminimum wage employment.
  • Individuals educated in self-contained special education high school settings who are at risk for subminimum wage/sheltered employment.
  • Recent graduates educated in self-contained special education high school settings who are at risk for subminimum wage/sheltered employment.

  • Chesterfield Office: Chesterfield, Powhatan
  • Farmville Office: Amelia, Cumberland, Nottoway, Prince Edward
  • Fredericksburg Office: Caroline, Fredericksburg, King George, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond Co., Spotsylvania, Stafford, Warsaw, Westmoreland
  • Greater Richmond Office: Charles City, Essex, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, King and Queen, King William, New Kent, City of Richmond
  • Petersburg Office: Brunswick, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Greenville/Emporia, Hopewell, Petersburg, Prince George, Surry, Sussex

Southwest District

  • Abingdon Office: Bristol, Scott, Smyth, Washington
  • Christiansburg Office: Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pearisburg, Pulaski, Narrow, Radford
