Career Pathways for Individuals with Disabilities

The Career Pathways for Individuals with Disabilities (CPID) Project, led by the George Washington University Center for Rehabilitation Counseling Research and Education (GW-CRCRE), is designed to help individuals with disabilities access high-demand careers with sustainable wages. The initiative focuses on equipping participants with the skills, training, and credentials needed to succeed in competitive employment sectors.

Key Objectives:

  1. Targeted Outreach: Engaging individuals, including young adults and veterans, to connect them with career pathways aligned with labor market needs.
  2. Comprehensive Support Services: Providing benefits planning, financial assistance, self-advocacy training, and family engagement to ensure a holistic approach to career development.
  3. Employer and Industry Engagement: Partnering with businesses and industry leaders to create meaningful employment and advancement opportunities.
  4. Workforce and Educational Partnerships: Collaborating with educational institutions and workforce development programs to provide high-quality training and certification options.
  5. Accessibility and Accommodations: Ensuring that training and employment settings are fully accessible, incorporating assistive technology and individualized supports as needed.

The project also includes a series of training and informational resources to support vocational rehabilitation professionals in implementing career pathways aligned with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Through these efforts, the CPID project works to bridge the skills gap, enhance job opportunities, and create a more inclusive workforce for individuals with disabilities.
